Your privacy

We store your email address, a salted password hash, and account and node-routing records centrally. We do not store your unencrypted password. Your password is processed during HTTPS sign-in. A short-lived, single-use handoff signs you into your node.

Remember me stores a sign-in cookie for up to 30 days. Password autofill belongs to your browser or password manager. Logging out ends that session; your browser may still offer saved credentials.

Your setup name and phone number are stored on your node. Your name identifies you to people you invite. Node files, camera recordings and application data are not uploaded to our central account directory.

When you send an invitation or use email or push notifications, the delivery service processes the addressing information and content needed to deliver it. Providers may process that information under their own policies. Optional cloud device integrations are disabled by default and require you to enable them. Their manufacturers may receive commands, device state and account information; local alternatives are available where supported.

The connection service processes node addresses, routing and service-health information, sign-in sessions and security-related connection metadata. Depending on your connection route, a relay or reverse proxy also handles network traffic. A sign-in service is part of the trust required to access your node.

Child sexual abuse material is the only category of content ModernKeep moderates.

Child sexual abuse material is strictly prohibited. Do not use ModernKeep to create, store, access or distribute material that sexually exploits children. This is a serious violation of our rules.

Michael Partain, the owner and creator of ModernKeep, is personally committed to doing everything lawfully required to stop this abuse on the service. For the past 20 years, safeguards against the sexual exploitation of children have been a fundamental part of the software he produces, including work under his own name, Sites and Software LLC, and Modern Keep LLC. This commitment is permanent.

ModernKeep cannot directly view your private node storage. That privacy does not weaken this prohibition or our commitment to preventing abuse. Michael Partain is committed to requiring any sale of the company to include a binding clause preserving the strict prohibition of child sexual abuse material on the service.

For this purpose, we use software safeguards to help trace child sexual abuse material back to victims and perpetrators, with the aim of helping get victims to safety and stopping the abuse. These safeguards may operate beyond the presence of a file on your node.

Files that leave a node may carry a node-specific fingerprint. Exporting a file does not, by itself, send its content, fingerprint or an activity report to ModernKeep for this safeguard. Our crawlers may identify suspected child exploitation material outside private node storage and use an associated fingerprint to help trace its origin. We refer suspected material and relevant identifying information to law enforcement to help protect victims and investigate abuse. A fingerprint is an investigative lead; it does not, by itself, establish who committed an offence.

Storing content on your own node does not exempt it from these rules. Our safety and security safeguards may extend beyond the presence of a file on a node. Moving, copying or deleting a file does not remove responsibility for misuse. We do not publicly disclose operational details that could help someone evade these safeguards.

We use the email address and message you submit to review and respond to your support request. Beta signup collects your name, contact email, phone platform, preferred computer operating system and invitation consent to manage beta testing and plan platform support. Android testers also provide their Google-account email and consent for Google Play tester enrollment; that email may be shared with Google for beta access. Once a test is available and invitation delivery is configured, invitations may be emailed automatically to people who consented. Signup does not create a ModernKeep account, opt you into a store test or guarantee an invitation. You must join the store test yourself. You can leave the Google Play test or tester group yourself and use the support form to stop beta communications. Google manages its own test/group records under its policies. These submissions are encrypted in a private support inbox and retained for up to 30 days. They are not sold or used for unrelated marketing.

To request deletion of a support or beta submission, use the support form with the email you used. We may need to confirm that you control that address before deleting a record. This request is reviewed by a person; it does not automatically delete your account or node data.

Deleting your central account removes its active account records; it does not delete data on your nodes. Backups follow their retention settings and may outlast active records. Manage node data and backups on the node itself.

Support receives information you choose to send. Do not send passwords, recovery codes, private keys or camera recordings. We do not need those to start helping you.
